The next item on the agenda for many after arranging food storage space is a vacuum packaging machine, alternatively known as a food vacuum sealer.

We’ll run down various aspects of your Vacuum Packaging Machine. This is so that if you haven’t actually bought one yet, you’re  up to speed on what to check on before you make your purchase. And what to keep you eye on once you’ve bought your food packing machine.

Strength of the Heat Seal in a Vacuum Packaging Machine

Vacuum sealing bags come in various gauges or thicknesses – usually measured in microns. A manufacturer knowing his business,  will provide a strong enough heat seal for thicker bags and a lighter touch for thinner vacuum packer bags. These thinner bags are usually found on  a roll as with shrink wrap bags.

If there is one heat setting only you’re looking at a machine with limited versatility which probably isn’t meant to last too long. This consequent upon the fact that inadequate heat means the bag won’t be sealed properly. Too much heat and the bag is burned through making a nonsense of one’s attempted food preservation methods.

Power of the Vacuum Packaging Machine

‘Obviously’ the lower the power needed to run the vacuum packaging machinery the lower your costs. But where a vacuum packager has a lower power-rating  than 350 watts or so,  we’ve found them to be barely worth bothering with. They are less robustly made and can put one off using a vacuum packaging machine.

Warranty

If you’ve done ‘due diligence’ you should not need to pay for extended warranty. This would apply more specifically to a domestic rather than industrial unit. But extended warranties are usually found to be a poor investment.

Also, the nature of the warranty is a good indicator of the confidence the manufacturer places in his machines. ‘Two years as standard’ is something easy to place your confidence in.

And how about the After Warranty Service? Are parts then supplied at cost or is there an escalation of cost because the manufacturer knows you have little no choice in where you source the part in question?

A useful indicator of how things will go later on is to think up and ask them some simple question that someone might reasonably ask. How clear is the answer? How soon was it before they got back to you?

Over the ‘Phone

Is it possible to speak to someone in the technical department? It’s a good sign if you can. How helpful are they? You can readily tell  if they’re the kind who will consider you a bother if there is a difficulty.

Website Clarity

Can you easily find your way around and  understand their website? Again a company that cares if you can get through this entry point without too much fretting, such a company probably knows the basics of customer care.

These days, your choice of vacuum packaging machines  is dazzling. From something popular such as the foodsaver  v2440, the pro 2300 vacuum sealer, foodsaver  v3485, foodsaver v2460, vacmaster pro 130, vacmaster vp215, to…on and on. The range truly is bewildering. Spoiled for choice! we are…

One thing for sure: if we’re speaking of long term food storage, it’s darned difficult to get away from the whole business of vacuum sealing your food. The vacuum packaging machine is here to stay!
